“The first $100,000 is a bitch, but you gotta do it. I don’t care what you have to do—if it means walking everywhere and not eating anything that wasn’t purchased with a coupon, find a way to get your hands on $100,000. After that, you can ease off the gas a little bit.”
– Charlie Munger
Here we look at ways of making money online without experience (i.e. working for it). You can also earn money by letting it work for you (i.e. investing and earning passive income), however, you have to initially have the money before you’re able to invest it!

The Benefits of Working from Home
Here we will discuss how you can earn money working at home. There are many pros and cons of working from home including:
Flexible Hours
Since there’s no time clock to punch you work when you want. If your home based business is Internet related you can also work wherever you want as long as your laptop has a wireless Internet connection. There’s no more wasted time in useless meetings or chatting around the water cooler. Work when the children are in school or late in the evenings, it’s up to you. Your work schedule fits you, not the other way around.
No Commute
Working at home means no commute unless you count walking from the kitchen to your upstairs office. Even though gas prices have come back down to a somewhat reasonable level you’ll still save gas and wear and tear on your car, insurance because your mileage is less, or money spent on public transportation. And of course the time spent during the commute. The average commuter spends over an hour each day getting to and from work. That’s time you could put to better use.
Upside Earning Potential
Most jobs are paid by the hour. If you don’t put in the time you don’t get paid. Even salaried positions expect a minimum of a 40 hour work week and sometimes more. It doesn’t matter how hard you work, or necessarily the quality of your work, you get paid by the hour. In most work at home jobs you’re paid by the results, not how long it took you to achieve those results. Your motivation is focused on increasing your productivity and therefore your upside earning potential.
Immediate Rewards
Offline jobs pay a couple of weeks after you’ve completed the work. If you need extra money now even if you work overtime you won’t get paid for it until the next paycheck, which could weeks away. A home based business can be set up so you’re paid almost immediately after completing the work. If you need extra cash within the next couple of day for example, work a bit harder and longer, and you can earn that extra money.
A work at home job can mean more than just a steady paycheck. It gives you flexibility, saves money and allows you to be paid on your results.
Below you will find my most up to date list of ways that you can work from home to earn money.
Our Top List of Ways to Make Money Online Without Needing Experience
Blogging
While this is mentioned in a few of the categories below, I feel it is substantial enough to fit into its own category as well. Many moms of young kids turn to blogging as not just an outlet or a way to document their lives but also as a way to make money. Heck, this blog here generates some side income for me. If you have a passion for anything, you can turn that passion into a blog that generates revenue.
Content or Website Creator – Blogging / WooCommerce / Dropshipping / Niche Marketing
By creating your own website, there are so many different ways that you can make money. Many websites make money (i.e. monetisation) through:
- selling a product
- self-publishing a book
- drop shipping (i.e. buying from a wholesaler and selling to public)
- affiliate sales (it’s easy to join affiliate programs such as Ezoic (website ads) and Fiverr (hiring freelancers))
The list continues…
This website has been build using Astra and Cloudways. However, I have also used SiteGround and I started with Bluehost.
Sell Advertising on Your Website
By far the most popular way of selling advertising on the internet is by including Google Adsense ads on your website. Adsense is an example of a pay-per-click (PPC) ad. Whenever someone clicks one of the ads on your website, you earn money. Visitors don’t have to actually buy or do anything. As long as they click the ad, you get paid. The revenue you earn from a given click will vary according to the ad. Click amounts range from $0.01 to $25.00.
Once you place the code for a Google ad on your site, it automatically scans the content of your site in order to determine the most appropriate ads to include. Google does a very good job of matching advertiser ads with the content of a given web page.
Including Google Adsense ads on your website is very simple. Just go to the Google Adsense site, sign up, and then create ads for your site. It’s a pretty intuitive site, so creating your first ad should not take too long. You can choose the ad size, color, and whether to accept only text ads, image ads, or both.
However, if you were interested in a premium ad network, then you should have a look at Ezoic. Ezoic offer advanced A.I. technology that allows you to optimise the placement and size of your ads, to improve user experience (for your viewers), and increased revenue (for you). We wrote in depth about the Ezoic platform, and why they now allow all publishers to user their software (previously it was limited to sites that obtain a certain number of visitors).
We use Ezoic here and currently earn ~$10 per every 1,000 views (as a site <10k views /mth)
Referring Customers to Other Merchants (a.k.a. Affiliate Marketing)
Generating money through affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways for beginners to start earning money online. In the business world, someone that refers a customer to a business is entitled to a referral fee (or a kickback). Referring customers to online businesses is called referral marketing or affiliate marketing.
Thousands of businesses have established affiliate programs in order to capitalize on the fact that website owners are willing to promote their business in exchange for a fee. This fee is only paid if the customer actually buys a product or service offered by the business, but the fee is typically much larger than you’d receive from a PPC ad. Referral commissions can reach 50% of the price of the product or service. So, depending on the product or service that the customer buys, your referral fee can be quite substantial.
You may wonder how the business knows that you sent the customer to them? This is accomplished by using a coded link (a.k.a. a cookie) on your website that directs customers to the business. These “cookies” include a unique alphanumeric tag affixed to the end which lets the business know which affiliate directed the customer to them. Let us show you why affiliate marketing is still worth considering.
Often times third party affiliate sites manage affiliate programs for businesses. They act as sort of a clearinghouse, whereby businesses interested in having affiliates and website owners interested in earning revenue meet. The well know and highly respected affiliate sites are:
- ShareASale
- CircleWise
- CJ (perviously Commission Junction)
You can find nearly any product or service to promote at these sites. Visit these sites, create accounts, get affiliate links from businesses you want to promote, and place the links on your website. After you’ve included ads and/or affiliate links on your website, the next step is to promote your website so that visitors will come to it. You don’t even need a website to promote the affiliate links!
Freelancer
Another very common work from home job is to become a freelancer! This means that you are not bound to a single employer, and you get to choose jobs on your own terms. Platforms such as Fiverr allow you to compete for work with other freelancers, and also allow you to find freelancers to help you with you next task.
One of the great things about freelancing platforms is that there are so many jobs out there. It doesn’t matter if you have years of experience, or if you are just starting out. If you feel overwhelmed, we found 12 Fiverr gigs that require no skill. You can literally create an account today and start working!
Providing a Service
Similar to freelancing over the internet, there are sites that allow you to perform services for other people. Tasks can be things that require you to be present (i.e. cleaning a house), or can be things that are able to be done online (i.e. create a website). Examples of these sites include Craigslist in the United States, or Airtasker, which is is available in the UK, Australia and Ireland.
Transcribing as a Transcriptionist
You can get paid for sitting at your computer and writing out what you hear coming through your speakers if you decide to become a transcriptionist.
There is no experience or upfront costs required (apart from a computer and internet connection), and through companies such as

Other Considerations
When you are working from home, it can be easy to always be in “work mode”. It can be hard to take a break, and sometimes you have to push the boundaries to realise that your overdoing it. That’s why its important to have a few “rainy day” activities in your back pocket, for those slow days, or days that you feel like you just can’t.
